Pauline Davis Lorfano's educational background includes the Maine College of Art,
Westbrook College, and University of Maine (B.S. in Art Education), as well
as numerous art workshops.
She has taught drawing and painting on the elementary and college
level. She continues to paint in her studio in Vienna, VA., give workshops
and jury art exhibits.
Mrs. Lorfano is active in the Arts Community, having served as National Art
Board Chairman of the National League of American Pen Woman as well as past
President of Potomac Valley Watercolorist and Vienna Arts Society (two terms).
She is on the Board of Directors for VAS and Washington Water Color
Association and NLAPW as a Art Consultant. A member of Arlington Arts Center,
Strathmore Hall, and the previous mentioned organizations. Mrs. Lorfano is a
signature member of the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF MARINE PAINTERS, BALTIMORE
WATERCOLOR SOCIETY, NATIONAL LEAGUE OF AMERICAN PEN WOMEN and VIRGINIA WATERCOLOR
SOCIETY. She was Co-President of the Virginia Watercolor Society 2004. The exhibit
was in Northern Virginia, at the Ellipse Arts Center, Arlington, VA.
Mrs. Lorfano has received numerous art awards over the years including
the Historic Preservation Award from Historic Vienna Incorporated, for
her illustrations in "Visiting Historic Vienna, A Child's Book
to Color" and her
numerous drawings and illustrations for the Town of Vienna. In 2002 she
won the Richmond Region Watercolorists Award at the Virginia Watercolor
Society Annual Exhibition in Abingdon. In the year 2000, Maine College
of Art awarded her an Honorary Degree in Fine Art.
Mrs. Lorfano was featured in the March 2002 issue of Elan magazine.
Welcome Home Magazine has published her art work numerous times.
She enjoys working in watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, charcoal, and
pencil. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the
East Coast, including the Chrysler Museum; Charles Sumner School Museum;
Maritime Museum; Harve de Grace Museum; and National Wildlife Federation;
Strathmore Hall, Lawrence Gallery, Bayview Gallery - Camden, Maine;
Atrium Gallery; and the Fisher Gallery at the Schlesinger Arts Center,
to name a few.
Her versatility in subject matter is evident. "Representational/
Impressionistic style with a strong commitment to drawing is seen in
her paintings." Mrs.
Lorfano's inspiration comes from life. She enjoys all kinds of subject
matter and has always enjoyed painting plein air. "Painting outdoors
does lack the comfort, but it forces one to work faster." She works
on dry paper in a traditional method, sometimes experimenting when the
subject "calls" for it.
