About the Artist:
Jane
Iten, an individually recognized watercolor artist and founding
member of the exhibiting group The Virginia Eight, has
produced and exhibited her work for over 25 years. She is also
a dedicated community arts volunteer and a popular painting instructor
for children and adults. She holds a BA in Art from Averett University
in Danville, VA and an MA with a concentration in studio art from
Hollins University in Hollins, VA. She has also taken many workshops
with nationally recognized instructors including Judi Betts, Tony Couch,
Skip Lawrence, Carrie Brown, Christopher Schinck, Joy Schott,
Frank Webb and Pat Deadman, as well as Sondra Freckelton
and Jack Beal in Italy and England.
Her work
has been juried into national, regional and local exhibitions,
including (selected): National Watercolor Society; Watercolor
West; Virginia Watercolor Society; Danville Art League, Danville,
VA; and Piedmont Arts Association, Martinsville, VA. Her solo
exhibitions include Piedmont Arts Association, Martinsville, VA
(2000) and Eden City Hall, Eden, NC (2001). Her group exhibitions
include (selected): Piedmont Arts Association, Martinsville, VA;
Mustoe House Gallery, Hot Springs, VA; Carnegie Hall, Lewisburg,
WV; The Arts Depot, Abingdon, VA; Allegheny Highlands Arts &
Crafts Center, Clifton Forge, VA; Lynchburg Fine Arts Association,
Lynchburg, VA; and White House Gallery, Roanoke, VA.
Ms. Iten
has received several honors for her work, including: Piedmont
Arts Association Expressions Regional Exhibition, Watercolor Award
(2001, 2000); Virginia Watercolor Society Shenandoah Watercolor
Award, (2000); Piedmont Arts Association Lynwood Artist Exhibition
Best In Show, (1995); Second Place and President's Award (1993);
Merit Award, (1996).. Her work is included
in the collections of BB&T Bank; Piedmont Trust Bank; Ford,
Dickerson and Cobbe, CPAs; Danville Orthopedic Clinic; and numerous
private collections in several states.
She is an
associate member of the National Watercolor Society, Southern
Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Lynwood Artist member, (President
1996), and Associated Artists of Winston-Salem. In addition to
being a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society since
1998, she serves as Foundation Board Member.
