My paintings are a celebration of all things beautiful, in which each work leads me on a creative journey, weaving a tapestry of jewel-toned color, rich texture, and an abstract motif into a strong pictorial structure.

Jan Ledbetter

PROFILE
Award-winning artist, Jan Ledbetter graduated from Stephens College in Missouri, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University in Oklahoma, and earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in IIlustration at Syracuse University in New York. As the wife of an Air Force officer, Jan lived throughout the states and abroad where each new experience provided raw material for artistic interpretation. Now residing in Williamsburg, her expression of artistic talent has continued to develop and diversify.

This multifaceted artist's unique vision is portrayed in watermedia paintings that convey a personally felt intensity of style and emotion. Her collaged portraits from "Passages" and mixed media watercolors of "Studio Models" and "Colonial Williamsburg: An Artist's View" are recent series that allow the exploration of visual themes.

In 2003, Jan was commissioned by the Community Alliance for the Performing Arts to paint their 2003-2004 poster and program cover; in 2000, the city of Newport News selected her to paint historic Endview Plantation for a poster; and in 1996, Jan's work was honored when one of her paintings was reproduced as a poster for Williamsburg's Occasion for the Arts. During the one day festival, the entire edition sold out, their only poster to ever do so.

Jan works with a professional conservator at the Trimble Collection in Williamsburg by "inpainting", a task of repainting damaged oil canvases that have been restored. She teaches painting classes at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News and at Cristallo Art and Glass Studio in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her paintings are held in collections nationally and internationally.
